- Can you believe that Independence Day is tomorrow?! It seems like just yesterday it was New Years’ Eve and all of a sudden we have traded sequins for sunscreen! The 4th of July really is the pinnacle of Summer and we love when this time of year rolls around.
Tomorrow we are leaving behind the sticky heat of Manhattan to escape to the Catskills for some swimming, BBQ and of course, fireworks! A good mermaid knows the great efforts of a host-so we always try to arrive with a thoughtful hostess gift in hand. For our chic Country mouse-stess, we chose a charming wicker picnic basket found at the lovely Chelsea Market in Manhattan.(www.chelseamarketbaskets.com). The classic look is not only useful for transport but also makes a cute decoration during the party.
Everybody knows the 4th is not complete without a BBQ. Eleni's (www.elenis.com) created these adorable iced sugar cookies designed to look like everything found at a BBQ. Burger cookies, hot dog cookies, even popsicle cookies are perfect for this seasonal soiree.
What is a party without libations? Outdoor friendly “Pool Party” cups stand up to their task. In addition to being theme-appropriate, the acrylic is nice for summer as a dropped glass on a patio won’t result in a dangerous mess – especially in sandal season. We found these gems at The Monogram Shop in East Hampton. (www.themonogramshops.com).
Of course, we had to include this divine hand towel (www.anthropologie.com). And finally, to add some real spirit and color, we included lots and LOTS of American flags in various sizes to distribute to guests at the party. Note the toothpick-sized versions – adorable to top off cupcakes or fruit trays. Classic lanterns in red, white, and blue will dress up a table or yard well. (www.partycity.com)Happy 4th everybody! And to all of you Hostesses, just own the night like the 4th of July cuz baby...you know it.
